Critical Care Minnesota Can Count On.
Why I’m Running
Hello, I’m Karen Attia, and I am running to be your next State Senator for Rogers, Dayton, Champlin, Brooklyn Park, and Coon Rapids.
When you look at the challenges facing our state, the question isn’t just what needs to be fixed—it’s who has the real-world experience to fix it.
As a Critical Care Nurse, I operate in high-pressure environments where accountability, precision, and saving lives are the only things that matter. There is no room for politics in the ICU. As a small business owner, I know exactly what it takes to balance a budget, manage resources responsibly, and survive under an ever-increasing tax burden.
I am running for State Senate because our government desperately needs that exact combination of frontline crisis leadership and fiscal responsibility.
Right now, our families are feeling the strain of skyrocketing costs, a lack of government transparency, and a K-12 education system that is falling short for our children. Your hard-earned tax dollars belong to you—not to a broken system—and your fundamental, constitutional rights must be fiercely protected.
I am not a career politician. I am a caregiver and a problem solver. I have spent my life looking out for others, and I am ready to bring that dedication, transparency, and backbone to the State Senate to work for you.
Let’s bring our state back to health, together. I respectfully ask for your vote.
Meet Karen
For 30 years I have lived, worked, volunteered and worshiped in the community that includes Champlin, Brooklyn Park, Coon Rapids, Dayton & Rogers. This is my home and I care deeply about this district, its citizens and our state. I have raised 4 sons here as a single parent, one a Marine veteran. I am so grateful for the work ethic that being raised on a multigenerational dairy farm taught me.
Professionally, with a variety of positions as a Registered Nurse, including managing a multispecialty clinic, working on a nurse help line for a health insurance company, and having worked as a Critical Care Nurse for 30+ years, I see myself as an asset in the area of healthcare and will seek to be part of the Health and Human Services committee in the Senate. In addition, I have owned 2 small businesses which gives me insight into the world of business and I count it as a valuable experience which will be beneficial as a Senator.
Politically, I have been active in grassroots conservative causes including leadership positions in our BPOU, president of the North Metro Republican Women group & graduate of the Minnesota Excellence in Public service series (MEPS). Now having retired from full time nursing, I am ready to take my business experience and Critical Care nursing skills to the capitol to bring our state back to health!
I believe that the government should be an ally in making our lives better, not a burden to our families and seniors. Government can provide high quality services without excessive taxation or taxing our seniors out of the state.
Minnesotans have a right to efficient and effective state government. Our quality of life depends on it. We all care deeply about public safety, taxes, transportation, education and healthcare. They define our communities. Citizens are rightly concerned about rising crime and threats to personal safety, the increasing cost of living and changes to education that negatively impact their children’s learning.
Career politicians have had their turn, now it’s the people’s turn! I am committed to working hard to address the issues that all Minnesotans care about. Let’s work together to improve life in our beautiful state!
On the Issues
“My passion is for this great nation with the freedoms and liberties that are protected by our founding documents, the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution. We have just celebrated the 250th birthday of our United States of America. It is the place people from all over the world seek to come. We all have an innate desire to be free and live our life in peace. Freedom is not free, it must be fought for and protected. As President Reagan said, “Freedom is never more than one generation from extinction.” Today, I see an undermining force working to dismantle our country as it was founded, remove our history and silence our speech. I am an advocate for the principles of free enterprise, limited government and individual freedom. Free enterprise is an economic system where private businesses compete largely free of state control. As an elected senator, I will work to implement policies that are in line with those principles.”
Accountability in Government
Minnesotans deserve a government that spends their money honestly. Fraud and waste at the taxpayer’s expense must be investigated, prosecuted, and stopped — and officials who enable it must be held accountable. No exceptions.
Affordability
The cost of everyday life has become a serious burden for too many Minnesota families. Gas, groceries, utilities, insurance, and taxes have all climbed — and state policies are making it worse, not better. Minnesota doesn’t need more mandates that raise costs and strain household budgets. I’ll fight for policy that balances responsibility with the real-world needs of working Minnesotans.
Education that Works for Families
Our schools should focus on the fundamentals — reading, writing, math, critical thinking, and skills that prepare kids for life. Education should empower students to think for themselves, not push a political agenda.
Jobs and Opportunity
Minnesota should be the best place in the region to start a business, grow a workforce, and build a career. That means a regulatory environment that supports employers and protects workers — not one that drives jobs to other states.
